Indodax, an Indonesian cryptocurrency exchange, is suspected to have suffered a loss of $22 million

According to information shared by several blockchain security companies, Indodax, an Indonesian cryptocurrency exchange, was suspected to have been hacked earlier on Wednesday, with multiple tokens worth over $22 million stolen from its hot wallet.

Indodax stated on the community platform that its security team has identified potential security issues on the platform, and the platform is undergoing maintenance to ensure the normal operation of the entire system. The Indodax website and applications are temporarily inaccessible during the maintenance process. As of the publication of this article, the exchange website is still in a system update state.

According to security company SlowMist, Indodax lost over $22 million worth of tokens in this hacking attack, with the exchange losing the most assets stored on the Ethereum blockchain, worth approximately $14.63 million.

SlowMist ruled out the possibility of the Indodax hot wallet being hacked in their analysis of this event, and they believe that its withdrawal system may have been hacked. Yosi Hammer, the head of artificial intelligence at Cyvers, a blockchain security company, stated to BSCN that the pattern and features of the attack on Indodax are highly similar to those of North Korea's Lazarus Group.

According to CoinMarketCap data, Indodax has a total of approximately $367 million worth of tokens in its financial reserves, indicating that the number of stolen tokens is relatively small, and the platform should be able to make up for the losses.

Indodax is a centralized exchange established in 2014, primarily serving the local market in Indonesia. CoinGecko data shows that Indodax's trading volume has exceeded $11 million in the past 24 hours. Ranked first among the six Indonesian exchanges listed by CoinGecko, it also has the highest monthly traffic.
