Ethereum founder Vitalik believes that L2 interoperability issues will be resolved faster and discus

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of the Ethereum memory blockchain, believes that the solution to cross chain interoperability issues between the Ethereum Layer 2 network will be faster than expected, which will greatly improve the user experience in the network ecosystem. He also shared his vision for L2 cross chain interoperability.

Buterin wrote on the social media platform on Monday (5th):

I think people will be surprised by the speed at which the issue of 'cross L2 interoperability' is no longer a problem, and we will continue to explore the entire Ethereum universe (including Layer 1 Rollups、validium， Even obtaining a smooth user experience in sidechains. I am seeing a lot of energy and willingness to achieve this goal

In response to concerns about the most promising solutions, Buterin mentioned some Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) on the Cross L2 Compatibility Roadmap.

The first phase of the roadmap includes EIP-3370, which aims to introduce a new address standard for adoption on cryptocurrency wallets and decentralized applications (dApps) by presenting specific chain addresses using human readable prefixes.

Another step in the upgrade path is EIP-7683, which aims to establish a standardized way of communication and transaction execution between different Ethereum layer 2 networks. At present, asset transactions between different networks are still very complex for users and often inefficient. Therefore, establishing a new set of standard rules that all chains can follow will help alleviate this problem.

EIP-3668 aims to propose a standardized method for Ethereum smart contracts to access off chain data. Buterin collectively refers to these proposals as "Layer-2 light clients" because their goal is to standardize the way smart contracts use off chain data, which can make it easier and more efficient for developers to build applications that require large amounts of data without having to bear high on chain storage costs.

Buterin also mentioned 'replayable account status updates across L2', which refers to how L2 can receive the latest L1 status updates while maintaining security and low latency. He explained this in a blog post published in 2023.

Buterin then talked about some second phase updates that can further improve L2 cross chain compatibility, including Keystore rollups and Proof aggregation.

Regarding compatibility with existing Zero Knowledge (ZK) and Optimal Rollup, Buterin stated that the "first stage" update is "completely independent of the details of Rollup technology" and concluded that:

In the end, I believe all Rollups will shift to ZK (and existing ZK Rollups will have to redo their technology stack) in order to finally confirm Ethereum in each slot. But it seems like it will take more than 5 years
